Professor of Literature and Languages at Marymount University
Dr. Marguerite Rippy is a professor in the department of literature and languages at Marymount University. Her research centers on 20th century adaptations of Shakespeare, particularly the radio/stage/films of Orson Welles. Currently, she is working on Welles’ “Voodoo” Macbeth (1936), a black-cast production funded by the Federal Theater Project. Her research on Welles’ Macbeth has been published in her 2009 book, Orson Welles and the Unfinished RKO Projects, in the collection Weyward Macbeth (2008), in Shakespeare Bulletin (2014), and in her co-authored book Welles, Kursosawa, Kozintsev, Zeffireli (2013). She is particularly interested in Welles’ collaboration with African drummer/choreographer Asadata Dafora. Her essay on Dafora will appear in Orson Welles: Stage, Sound, Screen, and Society, forthcoming from Indiana University Press. She has hosted talk-backs at several national and local film festivals, including Indie Memphis, AFI Docs, and the annual Marymount University Film Fest.
